[size=2]In a three-hour visit, Mr Rudd held talks with PrimeMinister Xanana Gusmao, who narrowly escaped injury when gunmenambushed his car on Monday. [/size]

[size=2]Several arrest warrants have been issued in connectionwith the attacks, which have been attributed to a group of rebelssoldiers with grievances that date from a wave of violence in mid-2006.[/size]
[size=2]Australian-led international forces are now combing the hills behind the capital for the remaining rebels. [/size]
[size=2]Their leader, Alfredo Reinado, was killed in the attack on Mr Ramos-Horta's residence. [/size]
[size=2]But in a BBC interview on Thursday, one of the rebelsinvolved in the attacks, Gastao Salsinha, denied attempting toassassinate the two top leaders. [/size]
[size=2]He said security personnel for President Ramos-Horta started the fire fight that killed Reinado. [/size]
[size=2]Speaking from hiding, Mr Salsinha said he had now taken over as rebel leader. [/size]
[size=2]East Timor won independence in 2002 after decades under Indonesian rule. [/size]
